WSIA is recruiting for a Training Manager

The Washington Self-Insurers Association (WSIA) is hiring for a Training Manager to help shape and coordinate our strong annual offerings of educational and conference content.

What is the role?

WSIA’s Training Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the association’s successful and well-regarded education and training program, known as the Industrial Insurance University (IIU). Working with volunteer WSIA members who make up the IIU Board of Regents, the training coordinator organizes, researches, develops, recruits, and in some cases may author and present, courses in WSIA’s annual educational offerings, both in-person and online. This prominently includes the Washington Workers’ Compensation Professional (WWCP) professional designation, currently approved by the Department of Labor & Industries as pre-licensing education for the self-insurance claims handler certification. The Training Manager also helps develop educational content for WSIA’s season and annual conferences.

What is WSIA?

WSIA is the statewide organization representing the workplace safety and workers’ compensation interests of major Washington employers. Since its founding in 1972, at the dawn of self-insurance in Washington workers’ compensation, WSIA has helped members successfully implement and operate self-insurance programs, to keep Washington employees safe, healthy, and working. WSIA members include major public and private sector employers, such as cities, counties, hospitals, non-profit charities, and many of Washington’s most visible and iconic brands and companies.

Who will you be working with?

In addition to the Training Manager, WSIA’s staff consists of an Executive Director and Office/Events Manager. We also retain an outside government affairs consultant/lobbyist, and work closely with an active and highly engaged Executive Committee, Board of Directors and other volunteers.

This position can be mostly remote. WSIA maintains an office in Olympia, Washington, and occasional travel to the office for meetings, event broadcasts, staff engagement, and other activities will be required a few times per month. Alternatively, this position can be based in-person out of the Olympia office, or some combination of in-person and remote.

What will you be doing?

  • Recommend, develop (with the help of subject matter experts), and execute education programs that meet the needs of Washington’s self-insured and workers’ compensation employer community including in-person and virtual events and training
  • Manage content, instructors, and speakers for WSIA education programs
  • Support WSIA committees and volunteers in education content development and execution of programs
  • Utilize methods to test knowledge retention and skill application for program participants
  • Develop and utilize evaluation methods to measure the success of education programs
  • Serve as staff liaison to WSIA committees as needed
  • Stay on top of emerging trends in workers’ compensation and workplace safety topics

What kind of experience and expertise are we looking for?

  • Knowledge and experience with Washington workers’ compensation and/or workplace safety strongly desired
  • Experience with Washington’s self-insured employer community desired
  • Experience, or a strong interest in, event planning/management
  • Experience, or a strong interest in, adult education or training
  • Strong people skills and written/verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail, organization, follow-through and self-direction
  • Ability to manage important projects on time sensitive deadlines
  • Desire to work on a close-knit team in a small office, and a flexible, customer-centric attitude
  • Ability to travel 5-6 times per year to WSIA conferences, meetings, external conferences, continuing education, and/or staff engagement activities, as well as monthly travel to the WSIA Olympia office if working remotely

Here’s what WSIA offers its staff:

  • The salary range for this position is $70,000-80,000 per year, depending upon experience and qualifications
