WSIA honors Bob Haugen with Chet Diehl Award at 2014 annual conference

TACOMA – The Washington Self-Insurers Association (“WSIA”), the statewide trade group representing major Washington employers in workplace safety and workers’ compensation matters, today honored longtime WSIA member Bob Haugen with the association’s Chet Diehl Award for Distinguished Service.

Haugen currently serves as Risk Manager for Tri Marine, a worldwide fishing, maritime, and food processing company headquartered in Bellevue.

Prior to joining Tri Marine, Haugen worked for Nordstrom for over twelve years, helping operate the company’s highly successful self-insured workers’ compensation program. Haugen’s team managed injured worker benefits in 22 states, working in partnership with Nordstrom’s safety team and benefits group to deliver best in class service to injured employees of the store. Haugen’s career in risk management and workers’ compensation also involves working for Aetna and Crawford & Company insurance companies.

Over the course of his career, Haugen has been an active member of WSIA, serving on the association’s Board of Directors in multiple capacities, volunteering on a number of technical and public policy committees, and ultimately, two stints as Treasurer, helping the association keep a strong financial footing through and out of the Great Recession.

WSIA’s Chet Diehl Award for Distinguished Service, named for WSIA’s first president, honors an individual who has shown extraordinary effort and dedication to the workers’ compensation profession in Washington, making a lasting contribution to our community through integrity and professionalism.
