of Washington workers' compensation, services, research,
and updates on related legislative activities.
Products and Services Include:
Training
programs and conferences throughout the year cover
programs from entry level and advanced claims administration
seminars to complex legal and management issues, and
legal workshops. Additional training programs are
being added for the 2005-06 year – the WWCP
Washington Workers' Compensation Professional designation
for claims professionals. WSIA holds several conferences
each year: Fall, Winter East, Winter West, Spring,
and the popular Annual Conference – at different
locations around the state to help bring our services
closer to where you live and work.
Legislative
and lobbying efforts take place throughout the year.The
Association retains a full-time lobbyist to assist
in accomplishing the membership's legislative agenda.
WSIA is the only association in Washington with a
legislative program dedicated solely to addressing
workers' compensation issues. WSIA publishes periodic
updates on legislative activities and lets you know
when there are opportunities to weigh in on significant
lobbying efforts.
Technical
assistance ranges from assisting companies exploring
self insurance, interpreting proposed Department of
Labor & Industries policies, advice on setting
up drug testing programs and safety committees, and
return-to-work procedures. WSIA maintains a toll-free
member line and a Web site to provide additional ongoing
assistance to our members.
Issues
and legal research services include commissioning
industry-related studies, funding related initiatives,
filing Amicus (“friend of the court” )
legal briefs, “LegLink” updates e-mailed
to members periodically on the status of legislation
affecting the self-insured community, and long-term
strategic planning on various issues.
Cost
savings to members through ongoing review and implementation
of cost-saving programs for our employer members,
such as our contract for discount hearing aids and
services, and a pharmacy program for savings on prescriptions.
Affiliations
and liaison efforts with organizations with common
goals. WSIA members get results through our key leadership
at the Department of Labor & Industries on both
global and specific items related to policy, legislation,
resources, assessments, and claims administration.
Professional
growth for members is gained through volunteer opportunities
at WSIA. Members may serve on committees, on the Board
of Directors, and participate in various Association
projects. The four standing committees of the Association
are:
- Legislative Committee
- Program Committee
- Finance & Planning Committee, and
- Membership & Marketing Committee
Association
staff includes a training coordinator, a contract
lobbyist, an event planner, administrative support,
and the Executive Director, who reports to the President
of the Board of Directors.
