Training Coordinator's Corner

Hello Members!

We have officially launched into our fall training programs.  Hope you have been able to participate in some and have found them beneficial.  There are more to come, including our Legal Seminar, the Winter East Conference, and the Calculations Webinars.  Registration for all training programs and conferences are generally posted about 6 weeks prior to the event.  Go to the WSIA Website to register:  http://www.wsiassn.org/public/training_programs.html

I am happy to share the results of the September Claims Administrator Certification examination.  If you recall, we offered our first ever two-day Cert Review preparation class just prior to the exam.  The pass rate for those taking our prep class was 61.5%, up 18% from the June test The overall pass rate for all testers was 47%.  I am very pleased at the improved pass rate and encourage anyone taking the certification exam to take the prep class.  The next Cert Review class is December 16th and 17th.

I’d like to take a few minutes to enlighten everyone on our upcoming Calculations Webinars.  Last February and March we presented three Calculations Webinars covering Time Loss, LEP and PPD calculations.  These Webinars were designed to cover the basics in calculating time loss, loss of earning power and permanent partial disability.

This fall, we will be presenting four live Advanced Calculations Webinars.  We have added a separate Webinar to tackle Gross Monthly Wage Calculations and will kick off the series with that Webinar on November 13th.   The other three Webinars will follow on November 18th, December 2nd, and December 9th.  Again, we will get into much greater detail regarding the factors that go into these calculations, providing an opportunity for more advanced learning.

As before, the Webinar instructors will be Self-Insurance Trainers, Starla Treznoski and Valerie Estes, and yours truly.  I encourage anyone preparing for the December Certification Exam to take the Webinars as part of the preparation process.

I would also like to remind you that WWCP Medical Information course will be starting in January.  This course is part of our three part WWCP designation program; but even if you don’t wish to pursue your WWCP designation just yet, individuals in need of medical continuing education credits for their Department Certification can take the course and obtain 12 highly desirable medical credits!  Since there isn’t a time limit on completion of the three courses, you can complete the other two courses and obtain your designation when it is convenient for you.

Lastly, I want to extend my thanks to the many members who have volunteered their precious time to review curriculum, guest speak, instruct, and facilitate so far this training season. We couldn’t do it without you!

As always, I want to hear from you if you have suggestions, questions or comments regarding WSIA’s Training Programs or if you are interested in volunteering.  You can contact me at bonnie.prater@wsiassn.org or 1-800-736-7296.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Until November…
