Training Coordinator's Corner

By Bonnie Prater

Greetings!

The training season is well underway.  I am busy updating training materials. Thank you to those of you who attended Claims 1 and 2 and the Wage/Time Loss Calculations Webinar in February.  Both events were well attended.  If you attended one of these events, I am interested in your feedback.  If you have anything you would like to share with me that you didn’t include on your course evaluation form, let me hear from you.  You can email me at bonnie.prater@wsiassn.org.

So what is coming up, you say?  Upcoming training opportunities include our Loss of Earning Power Calculations Webinar (3/5/08), our Permanent Partial Disability Calculations Webinar (3/12/08), our Certification Review Class (3/19/08), and Claims 3 and 4 (4/3-4/08).  You can find details on all our training programs HERE on our website www.wsiassn.org/public/training_programs.html.

Speaking of our Certification Review Class, I have been busy updating and beefing up this class to provide a solid review for those taking the Certification Test. The pass ratio on the last Test was only 40% but the testers who took our class had a much higher, 63% pass rate.  This time around, I am shooting for an even higher pass ratio for our students…how about 75% or even 80%?  Don’t forget to register if you are taking the Test on 3/20/08.   Registration will close at least a week before the classes to allow us time to send out pre-work (i.e. – homework!) to the attendees. Remember: This class is only open to WSIA members.

Regarding our Washington Workers’ Compensation Professional courses, we are closing in on the end of the current course, WWCP Medical Information.  The next course, WWCP Claims Management, will begin on 4/8/08.  Registration information will be posted HERE on our website by next week.

As you may know, WSIA relies heavily on volunteer speakers from our membership.  Our WWCP program is no different.

Now, here is how you can get involved...I am currently looking for senior level claims examiners or claims supervisors who are interested in volunteering to speak at one of our classes.  The bulk of the material is provided to the speakers but we do encourage each speaker to share their own expertise and experiences with our students.  Please contact me as soon as possible if you would like to volunteer!

I hope you plan to attend one of the Department’s training presentations on the Vocational Rehabilitation Improvement Project.  Please go to our website’s training programs page for details on dates and locations.

And…don’t forget to register to attend WSIA’s Spring Conference being held March 14th in Tacoma at the Best Western Tacoma Dome Inn.

That’s all for now.  Take care.
