Training Coordinator's Corner

Hello Everyone,

Happy July!  I hope you have all been enjoying the warm (hot?) weather.  I am so glad that summer has finally arrived.  Thought I would catch you up on recent events and upcoming training for fall...

Certification Review Class Updates:

Our Certification Review class was held on June 18th.  We had a full class of 25 attendees, all eager and prepared for a final review before the Department Claims Administration test the next day.  Each time I prepare materials for this class, I try to make the class more comprehensive so that attendees go into the test as well prepared as possible.    The attendees are provided with all the information and practice we can cram into the 7 hour day.  But, of course, I am not satisfied that we have reached our peak.

Therefore, the September class will be a two day event!  This will give us the ability to adopt a bit slower pace so we can really delve into complex areas and provide more time for practice test exercises and still end the second day early enough to allow some good R & R before test time.

Class will be held September 16th and 17th in Olympia and is open to members only.  The first day will be spent on calculations and the second on rules/law.  I plan to end the second day by 3 pm to allow the attendees some down time before the test.  Registration information will be posted on our website about 6 weeks ahead of the class and it is important that you sign up right away as we will be closing registration on September 2nd and sending out the homework that day.

Please note:  The test is administered by the Department and you must apply and be approved to take the test.

WWCP Updates:

IIU’s WWCP Statutory Requirements course ended on June 24th.  Tests will be graded at the IIU Board of Regents meeting on July 24th.  Facilitators, dates, and locations for the upcoming program year have been selected and Facilitator Training was held June 12th and 13th.  The first course, Statutory Requirements, will begin on September 9th and will be offered in Renton, Olympia, Everett, and Port Angeles.

Facilitators will be looking for WWCP guest speakers very soon.  If you are interested in being a guest speaker for any of our WWCP classes please send me an email at bonnie.prater@wsiassn.org and I will pass your contact information on to the appropriate facilitator.

Registration information for Statutory Requirements will be posted soon, so watch the training page on our website.  I encourage any claims professional looking to enhance their skills and knowledge to sign up.  Please be aware that the WWCP designation program is designed for experienced claims people and may be quite difficult for those new to the industry.

Claims Training Series Updates:

As luck may have it, for those of you new to the industry, we offer the Claims Training Series.  Claims 1 & 2 will be held on September 23rd and 24th at the Radisson Gateway Hotel in Seatac.  Claims 3 & 4 will be held November 6th and 7th.  These courses provide an introduction into all areas of managing self-insured claims in Washington.

Hope this information helps you plan for upcoming training.

Until August …
